Why this recipe is so great:

  • Surprisingly delicious – This is one of those recipes you have to try to believe. No matter what I do to make grape salad look pretty, the presentation is never that impressive. But once everyone has a taste, it quickly becomes their most favorite and requested treat!
  • Feeds a crowd – As written, this recipe uses one of those big packs of grapes from Costco and an entire brick of cream cheese. That means that it makes A LOT. Perfect for a potluck, however if you’re making it just for your family, feel free to cut the recipe in half or even quarter it!
  • Super easy to make – The sweet creamy base can be mixed by hand or with a mixer. It literally takes just a few minutes to throw together.

Ingredients needed:

Exact quantities are listed in the recipe card below, but here is a summary.

  • Grapes – any variety, but firm is better than soft
  • Cream Cheese – softened

  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Brown Sugar
  • Chopped Pecans
ingredients to make Grape Salad

How to make grape salad:

Detailed step by step instructions are listed in the recipe card below, but here is a summary.

  1. Prepare grapes: Wash grapes and remove from stem. For best results, let them dry.
  2. Combine creamy ingredients: In a large bowl or in a stand mixer, combine cream cheese, sour cream, sugar, and vanilla. Mix well until light and fluffy.
  3. Fold in grapes: Gently toss the grapes in the sweet creamy mixture until it is evenly distributed.
  4. Add topping: Sprinkle brown sugar and crushed pecans on top.

Recipe tips for perfect results:

  • Storage: Leftover grape salad keeps well when stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator. The brown sugar will dissolve and the nuts may get soft, however, so if you’re making the recipe ahead of time, do not add the topping until you are ready to serve.
  • Substitutions:
    • Grapes: You may use any kind or combination of seedless grape as long as they are firm. You can also incorporate bites of apple or other crunchy juicy fruit.
    • Sugar: Honey or maple syrup would work as a sugar replacement, however the quantity would be different. Start by adding a little, taste, and add more until the perfect balance is reached.
    • Creamy base: Whipped cream cheese or a brick of softened cream cheese work equally well. Greek yogurt can be used in place of the sour cream. For a sweeter version, marshmallow cream and/or heavy cream can be used in lieu of the cream cheese and sour cream.
    • Nuts: Walnuts or pistachios are a great substitution for pecans.

Iโ€™ve made this grape salad a lot. To tone down the sweetness a little, I added 1 cup of extra sharp cheddar cheese and added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. I believe chopped up celery would be good also. I might try that next time.
