Why this recipe is so great:

  • Quick and easy: This recipe takes very little prep, only a few ingredients, and cooks up in just 7 minutes.
  • Flavorful and crispy: Air frying asparagus cooks them perfectly tender on the inside and the tips are wonderfully crispy. The parmesan cheese adds the perfect flavor.

Ingredients needed to make this recipe:

  • Asparagus – Thin or thick stalks is completely a matter of preference. This air fried asparagus recipe is for fresh asparagus and cannot be used to cook frozen asparagus.
  • Olive oil – Always use a tasty high quality extra virgin olive oil.
  • Parmesan cheese – Finely grated from a block works best. I use a microplane.
  • Salt and Pepper – Highly recommend freshly ground pepper and sea salt for this recipe.

How to make Air Fryer Asparagus:

  1. Prep asparagus: Trim ends and toss the spears in the olive oil with the salt and pepper. This is best done in something like a walled baking sheet. Shake off any excess oil and spread into a single layer on the air fryer basket.
  2. Add parmesan: Sprinkle the grated parmesan over the top.
  3. Air fry: The asparagus should take about 7 minutes to cook at 400°F in the air fryer. Time may need to be adjusted based on the thickness of the stalks.

Cooking tips for best results:

  • Asparagus preparation: In addition to trimming the ends, I’ve also found that peeling the bottom half of each stalk, if they are particularly woody, creates a more tender bite of asparagus.
  • Grated parmesan: Pre-shredded parmesan will not stick to the asparagus. It is highly recommended you grate it from a block.
  • Cooking time varies: Depending on the thickness of the stalks, air fryer asparagus will take about 7 minutes to cook. Be sure to check doneness and extend or decrease cooking time, as needed.
