Do you know the difference between Prosecco and Champagne? Prosecco is a white sparkling wine from Italy. Like Champagne, the name Prosecco refers to a specific region and grape – in this case, glera grapes grown in the north-east Veneto region of Italy. Prosecco is often preferred because of its approachable price point that has enabled it to evolve from a “special occasion” drink to one that is enjoyed anytime. Prosecco is usually light and fruity with some sweetness flavors appeal to the masses as well. Prosecco is basically the best way to add bubbles to your cocktail.

Prosecco is a fun alternative to traditional cocktails and wine. And aside from the taste, I have to admit my favorite part is the twist top. I may or may not have a fear of the standard champagne cork!

lavendar simple syrup

This is the first of several Prosecco summer cocktails I’m going to be sharing with you. I was super excited to use lavender in this recipe. First, I adore everything about lavender: the fragrance, the color, the amount of bees it attracts, and the taste. Second, you just can’t get much more summer than lavender. In fact, you can’t get much more Italian than lavender either. Unless, of course, if you incorporate lavender into your cocktail.  Lavender is basically Italian for summer.

Although I make the lavender syrup by infusing dried lavender into some simple syrup, I think this cocktail looks especially beautiful when garnished with fresh lavender snipped from the garden.
