1/2cupbuttermelted
1cupwhole milkcold
Strawberries and Cream Topping:
1pintfresh strawberriesstems removed
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
whipped creamfor serving
Instructions
Mix cake ingredients according to instructions. Bake cake in 8x8 pan in preheated oven.
16 ounces vanilla cake mix, 2 large eggs, 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup whole milk
While cake is baking, mash 1 pint fresh strawberries in a bowl with a fork, masher, or pastry blender. The smaller you make the chunks, the more they will soak into the cake.
Mix mashed strawberries with entire can (about 14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk. Stir to combine.
When cake is done baking, remove from oven and use chop sticks or a thin spoon handle to poke holes all over the top. While the cake is still hot, pour the sweet strawberry mixture over the top and continue to poke holes as necessary to get as much of the liquid as possible into the cake.
Allow cake to cool completely in the refrigerator, at least 2 hours.
Top with fresh whipped cream and additional strawberries.
Notes
Cake: I use Trader Joe's Vanilla cake mix that is perfect for an 8x8 inch cake. If you use a different mix, you will need to alter the ingredients needed to bake the cake according to the instructions. If you cake mix makes a cake that is larger than 8x8 inch, you may consider increasing the amount of strawberries and sweetened condensed milk proportionately.
