Ingredients

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  • Set broiler to high. Slice grapefruit in half and use a paring knife to separate the pieces for easy scooping. Spread 1 tablespoon of brown sugar onto each side. Place fruit in a baking dish that will collect any excess juices that spill over.
  • Broil until sugar melts, about 5 minutes. Serve warm.

Notes

Quick tips for perfect results:

  • The recipe is for one grapefruit but you can easily make this recipe for a crowd. It is a fantastic addition to any brunch.
  • The brown sugar is optional. Although I used to cover my grapefruit with a disgusting amount of sugar when I was a kid, our entire family eats it plain now. You can certainly broil the plain grapefruit and it will still be delicious. The brown sugar just makes it a treat.
  • You may need to adjust the height of your oven rack to ensure the grapefruit gets heated through without burning the brown sugar on top.
  • You can use granulated sugar instead of brown sugar, but I found the brown sugar adds more of a rich caramel flavor.
